Virginia Sales Tax Holiday August 5-7

Can you believe summer is almost over and the dreaded "S" word is just around the corner?! Yup, it's that's time of year again to prepare for back to SCHOOL! For the 6th straight year in a row, Virginia will hold it's back-to-school no sales tax holiday Friday, August 5th through Sunday, August 7th.

Guidelines include:

-Schools supplies, such as notebooks and pens, will be exempt from tax as long as the item is $20 or less.

-Clothing and shoes will be tax free on items priced $100 or less.

What a way to save! It is estimated that Virginians will save over $4 million in sales tax this year!

The crazy thing is I can help friends and family and clients pick out some great, neutral colors, but when it comes to my own home I freeze up...Something I think we all can relate to! Richmond Cooling Centers Open Through Weekend - Beat the Heat!


I don't have to tell you as you already feel it...It's HOT out there! To beat the heat, Richmond has several cooling centers that will be open through the weekend.

Cooling Centers in Richmond for Friday:

Southside Community Services Center, 4100 Hull Street Road
Department of Social Services, 900 East Marshall Street
East District Center, 701 North 25th Street
*Open from Noon until 5PM

Cooling Centers in Richmond for Saturday and Sunday:
Southside Community Services Center, 4100 Hull Street Road
Department of Social Services, 900 East Marshall Street
*Open from Noon until 5PM

All cooling shelters will provide bottled water, however, food will not be supplied. In addition, pets are not allowed with the exception of service animals.

Remember:

Take a few extra minutes and check on your neighbors who may not have access to air conditioning, especially the elderly.

Take extra care of your pets in this excessive heat. Make sure to give plenty of water (refill often) and provide plenty of shade!

Virginia Food and Wine Festival!


Looking for something fun to do this upcoming weekend? Look no further! The Virginia Food & Wine Festival will be held this Sunday, July 24th from Noon until 5PM at the Farm Bureau Center at The Meadow Event Park presented by SaveOurFood.org! Admission is $10 per carload or just $5 for Virginia Farm Bureau members and Kroger customers with admission flyer. (Hint: Click on the Festival link I provided, download the flyer to the right and there is your special savings card!)

Admission includes hundreds of free Virginia food & wine samples, the Down on the Farm kids' area which boasts fishing games, crafts, & more, live music, and the opportunity to purchase fresh produce from the indoor Farmers' Market! All of this PLUS you'll beat the heat as the festival is indoors and air conditioned!
