- The Richmond area includes - the Town of Ashland and the following counties: Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, and Powhatan. The Richmond-Petersburg MSA (metropolitan statistical area) includes the Richmond region, as well as Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Hopewell, and the Counties of: Amelia, Caroline, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Goochland, King and Queen, King William, Louisa, Prince George and Sussex.
- Population - Greater Richmond has 916,269 people with the following breakdown: Chesterfield County,318,810, Hanover County, 105,762, Henrico County, 301,658, City of Richmond, 190,039.
- Demographics: 54.2% of the Richmond-Petersburg MSA population is between the working ages of 25-64 . 48% of the population is male and 52% female. The median age is 37.3. 85.4% of the areas population age 25 or older are high school graduates, 58.2% have attended college, and 37.2% are college graduates.
- Standard & Poor's Top 500 companies: CarMax, Dominion Resources, Genworth, MeadWestvaco, and Massey Energy Co.
- State and local taxes: 6% state corporate income tax. 5% sales and use tax (4% state, 1% local)
- Climate: Normal maximum daily temperature in July is 87.5 degrees, Normal minimum daily temperature in January is 27.6 degrees, and normal annual precipitation is 43.91 inches.
